Click to see Dallas' Eagle Scout ProjectFox Island resident and Troop 27 Eagle Scout Dallas Thornton was the other driver in the fatal collision on Christmas Eve 2014, and thankfully he is alive today. His family appreciates everyone's concern and willingness to help.

Dallas sustained some significant injuries but he is awake, alert and healing slowly. According to the surgeon, his recovery will take around 6 months to attempt walking again, to 2 years for recovery.  He has a broken wrist and finger, fractured vertebrae, pelvis, tibia and extensive injuries to both his feet and ankles, which will require surgery in the near future. Until then he is recovering and rehabilitating in bed.

The article in the paper is fairly accurate and I can tell you that Dallas was returning from work following a fellow Islander. The vehicle that Dallas was following had to take evasive measures to avoid colliding with the vehicle that eventually hit Dallas head on in his lane as he drove out of the corner and started up the hill.

Dallas was trapped in the 1998 Chevy Suburban until the Fire Department could extricate him using the Jaws of life. His parents were coming home from shopping and arrived on the scene prior to him being removed.

They are so thankful to still have Dallas with them today, and have received tremendous family, friend and neighborhood support, however medical bills and other costs are expected to reach in the thousands of dollars, so any donation you might be able to spare would be greatly appreciated by the family.  It may be up to 2 years before he is able to walk normally again.  His service to the community includes many hours of community service work and his Eagle Scout project at the Fox Island Nature Center.

In addition to multiple surgeries, Dallas will need a wheelchair accessible van for transportation on a regular basis for the coming months.

Facebook is the best way to reach him for correspondence.   Contact Us if you have any questions about the fund, or specific needs you would like to provide for.
